One of my students was telling me that an old coworker of his brought him a souvenir from Japan. It's chili oil called "rayu", for putting in sauce for dumplings and things like that. Well, this brand of oil is super popular in Japan, and has a great name: "Karasoude Karakunai Chotto Karai Ra-yu", which means something like, "looks spicy, not really spicy, but is kind of a little bit spicy chili oil". Apparently some bloggers over there spread the news about the product and now its selling for a huge premium and flys off the shelves anyway. Such are Japanese trends..
